Saddle Up for Llano Western Weekend in October!

Llano Western Weekend is slated for October 19-21st, and this event keeps growing every year to include something of interest for everyone. What started as a Chuck Wagon Cookoff in 2005, this fall festival now includes a Longhorn Steer Show, PRCA Xtreme Bull Riding, Llano River Chuck Wagon Cook-off, Cobbler Contest, Heritage Trail Ride, and Vendors at the John L Kuykendall Event Center.

The Chuck Wagon Cookoff began in 2005 and was named Best Chuck Wagon Event by American Chuck Wagon Association in 2015, and True West Magazine’s Reader’s Choice for Best Chuck Wagon Cookoff in 2014. Using traditional cooking methods from that era, participants dress in traditional dress and compete for prizes in a number of categories. Adults and kids alike can walk along the Llano River and see the wagons set up and cooking by fire, just like the old west days. Tickets can be purchased by the public to enjoy the chuck wagon meal. Tickets always sell out early, so be sure to get yours in advance!

The Texas State Title Cobbler Championship is held on Saturday, October 20, and contestants are already practicing with hopes to win this year. There is a traditional and dutch oven category.

Western Trappings on the Llano is a western art show, and a live public auction will be held at the beautiful Badu 1891 on October 20. Preview at 3:00, bidding starts at 4:00. The Longhorn show, Bull Riding, and vendors will be at the John L. Kuykendall Center (covered and climate controlled).

Llano has been blessed with over 6″ of rain in recent days, and the Llano River looks amazing! The landscape is beautiful, and the town eagerly looks forward to this very special fall event every year. For more information, check out the Llano Chamber of Commerce website – Llanochamber.org. It’s a fun family-friendly weekend to be in Llano – come out and join us!
